What is new on the H743-slim-V4?

MEPSKING Expert Review

From the MEPSKING expert integration perspective, the H743-Slim V4 feels more like a compact autopilot platform than a basic racing flight controller. The 480MHz H7 processor provides comfortable headroom for RPM filtering, GPS rescue, telemetry, logging and multiple connected peripherals. Seven UARTs, CAN bus and dual I2C buses also reduce the port compromises commonly encountered on F4 and simpler F7 boards.

The dual ICM42688P IMUs, DPS368 barometer and MicroSD logging make the board particularly attractive for INAV and ArduPilot long-range builds. Our main reservation is complexity: the dense layout and extensive configuration options are better suited to experienced builders. For a simple four-motor Betaflight quad without GPS, CAN devices or advanced logging, a cheaper F7 controller may provide better value.

Installation and Troubleshooting Notes

Install the board with the supplied silicone grommets on a 30.5×30.5mm stack and confirm the “This Side Up” orientation before configuring board alignment. Flash the MATEKH743 target for Betaflight, INAV or ArduPilot. The controller does not contain an onboard current sensor, so current telemetry must come from a compatible ESC, analog power module or DroneCAN monitor.

Before connecting the main battery, check polarity and continuity and perform the first power-up through a  TBS Smoke Stopper.  If USB is not detected, try a confirmed data cable, another port and DFU mode before replacing the board. Missing sensors usually indicate the wrong firmware target, while unstable flight should first be checked for incorrect orientation, hard mounting or excessive vibration.

For analog video, verify camera input, video output, VTX power and OSD settings. For a digital system, assign MSP DisplayPort to a spare UART. ArduPilot users mixing motors and servos should also check PWM timer groups because outputs within the same group may need to run a common protocol or frequency.

Final Purchase Recommendation

Buy the Matek H743-Slim V4 if you need a mature 30×30 H7 controller for an INAV long-range aircraft, ArduPilot multirotor or advanced FPV build with several peripherals. It is less compelling for a basic budget quad. Matek currently classifies the model as end-of-life, so it is best purchased for an immediate build rather than as the foundation of a future fleet requiring long-term spare availability.
