T-Hobby F80 Pro Buying Guide: Is This 2408 Motor Right for You?

The T-Hobby F80 Pro, also widely known as the T-Motor F80 Pro, is a high-torque 2408 motor for pilots who want substantially more propeller authority than a conventional 2207 or 2306 motor. It is best suited to powerful 5-inch racing, heavy freestyle and selected 6-inch builds—not lightweight or efficiency-focused quads.

After reviewing the supplied thrust testing and real-flight footage, our MEPSKING expert conclusion is that the F80 Pro’s main advantage is torque rather than simply a higher top speed. The tested 2200KV motor exceeded 2kg of thrust at approximately 90% throttle with suitable 5-inch propellers, while the 1900KV 6S flight setup sounded smooth, maintained good control authority and returned without abnormal motor temperature.

The additional stator volume makes throttle punches, recovery and high-speed direction changes feel authoritative, but it also adds weight and current demand. Older review samples weighed approximately 39–40g with full-length wires, while the current revised listing specifies 36.4g. Pilots building to a strict weight target should verify the actual production batch and trimmed-wire weight.

Which F80 Pro KV Should You Choose?

The safest purchasing rule is straightforward: choose 1900KV for 6S, 2200KV for 4S/5S versatility, and 2500KV for 4S. Do not treat the 2200KV or 2500KV versions as unrestricted 6S motors simply because the product family includes a 6S-compatible option.

Propeller, ESC and Installation Advice

Start with a durable 5-inch tri-blade around 5.1×4.3 and inspect every propeller before flight. The supplied testing showed excellent performance with suitable 5-inch props, but a 2200KV motor burned during an extreme 7-inch-prop test on 4S. Another flight test experienced a propeller failure under the motor’s high load. The F80 Pro should therefore not be purchased as a general-purpose 7-inch motor.

Use a genuine 55–60A ESC, install the supplied low-ESR capacitor and verify the motor screws do not contact the windings. On the first setup, apply a conservative motor-output limit, run a short hover, then check motor and ESC temperature before increasing load. High-KV versions require particular care with heavy or high-pitch propellers.

Final Purchase Recommendation

Buy the T-Hobby F80 Pro 2408 motor when you want an exceptionally powerful 5-inch build and already have the ESC, battery and propellers required to support its current demand. Choose a lighter MEPS SZ2207 V2 for conventional racing agility, or a MEPS SZ2306 V2 when smooth freestyle handling matters more than maximum torque.
