T-HOBBY C80A-4IN1-8S ESC Buying Guide
The T-HOBBY C80A-4IN1-8S is built for FPV pilots who need more current capacity and power headroom than a typical 4-in-1 ESC can provide. Before choosing it, consider your drone size, battery voltage, motor current, and overall payload.
1. What Type of FPV Drone Is the C80A Designed For?
The C80A is best suited to high-power FPV builds, especially where large motors, larger propellers, higher battery voltage, or additional payload increase power demand.
Recommended applications:
-7–8 inch long-range FPV drones
-8–11 inch cinematic FPV drones
-Heavy-lift FPV platforms
-Cinelifter builds
-High-power 6S–8S drones
-FPV drones carrying larger cameras or other payloads
For a typical lightweight 5-inch freestyle or racing build, an 80A ESC is generally unnecessary. A lower-current ESC can provide sufficient capacity while reducing weight and cost.
Quick decision: If your build is designed around high thrust, large propellers, high-voltage batteries, or heavy payloads, the C80A is a more appropriate choice.
2. Why Choose an 80A ESC?
ESC current rating should be matched to the maximum current your motors can demand under the selected battery, propeller, and flight conditions.
The C80A provides 80A continuous current and 90A burst current per channel, giving high-power builds additional current headroom.
Choose an 80A ESC when:
-Your motors have relatively high maximum current
-You are using larger propellers
-Your drone carries a heavy payload
-You fly aggressively or frequently operate at high throttle
-You want additional current and thermal headroom
A higher current rating does not automatically improve flight performance. The benefit comes from having enough capacity for the actual power requirements of your build.
3. Should You Use 6S or 8S?
The C80A supports 4S–8S LiPo batteries, making it suitable for both high-power 6S and 8S platforms.
Choose 6S when:
-You already have a motor and propeller setup optimized for 6S
-You want a balance of power, efficiency, and component availability
-Your aircraft does not require the additional voltage of an 8S system
Choose 8S when:
-You are building a larger or heavier FPV drone
-Your motors are designed for 8S operation
-You need high power while controlling current demand
-You are building a heavy-lift or high-power cinematic platform
Do not choose 8S based on ESC compatibility alone. Your motor KV, motor size, propeller, battery, and aircraft weight must all be suitable for the selected voltage.
5. C80A vs. Lower-Current 4-in-1 ESCs

5–7" standard freestyle: 45–60A
7–8" long range: 60–80A

Choose the C80A when your build requires higher current capacity, 8S support, and additional power headroom.
Choose a lower-current ESC when your motors operate comfortably below the ESC's current rating and reducing weight or cost is a higher priority.
