Buying Guide: Axisflying DJI O4 Lite Air Unit Kit
The DJI O4 Air Unit, commonly called the DJI O4 Lite, combines 4K recording with an exceptionally lightweight camera and transmission module. However, its exposed circuit board has limited physical protection and very little thermal mass, allowing temperature to rise quickly during bench setup without airflow.

MEPSKING Expert Review: Does the CNC Cooling Kit Work?
For this MEPSKING evaluation, we reviewed the supplied hands-on thermal footage and completed installation tests instead of relying only on manufacturer claims.
In the thermal test, hotspots on the exposed O4 Lite board reached the high-80°C range, and the Air Unit entered thermal protection quickly. After the CNC case and thermal compound were installed, heat spread more evenly across the aluminum housing, with the outside of the case remaining around the upper-40°C range during the initial low-power test.
The improvement is meaningful, but it has a clear limit. When recording at a high bitrate without airflow, the protected Air Unit still stopped recording after a little over two minutes. The CNC cooling kit provides useful thermal headroom and impact protection, but it does not allow the O4 Lite to operate indefinitely without moving air.
MEPSKING verdict: Choose the cooling kit for better circuit-board protection and slower temperature rise, but continue using a fan during prolonged setup and make sure the finished aircraft provides airflow around the housing.
Real-World Build Experience
The supplied build footage showed the 20mm Axisflying camera housing installed in a BetaFPV Pavo20 Pro-style frame. The O4 Lite camera fitted the frame's 20mm camera bay without requiring a custom 3D-printed adapter, and the completed setup showed no obvious vibration in either the DVR footage or the Gyroflow-processed recording.
That particular build decreased from approximately 100g with an O4 Pro configuration to about 88g with the O4 Lite setup. This is a build-specific result rather than a guaranteed 12g reduction, but it shows why the 20mm option is attractive to pilots replacing an O3- or O4 Pro-sized camera installation with the lighter O4 system.
The protective glass in front of the Axisflying camera housing gives the lens additional crash protection. However, another glass surface can potentially introduce flare or reflections when flying toward strong light, so check the image before completing a cinematic build.

Who Should Buy the Full Cooling Kit?
Choose the full CNC cooling configuration for 3.5-inch and larger freestyle or cinematic builds where an additional 8.7g is acceptable. It is also suitable for ventilated cinewhoops, fixed-wing aircraft, ground vehicles and builds that spend more time powered during GPS acquisition or pre-flight preparation.
For an extremely weight-sensitive Tiny Whoop, choose only the camera housing or retain the stock O4 Lite configuration. Open-frame aircraft usually receive useful cooling once moving, while the CNC case can represent a significant percentage of a micro build's total weight.
If camera vibration is the main concern, consider adding dedicated O4 Air Unit shock-absorbing components instead of adding unnecessary weight around the transmission board.
Installation and Cooling Notes
Measure the available space before ordering. The cooling case is approximately 33.5 × 33.5 × 9 mm, making it larger than the bare O4 transmission board.
Confirm that your frame supports the approximately 25.5 × 25.5mm M2 mounting pattern.
Apply only a thin, even layer of thermal compound to the intended contact surfaces. Keep it away from connectors and exposed components.
Do not cover the cooling case with foam tape or mount it directly against an unventilated plate.
Use a fan while binding, updating firmware or configuring Betaflight on the bench.
Check the MIPI coaxial cable for pinching or sharp bends before tightening the frame.
Inspect the image for reflections from the protective glass before completing the build.
After fitting an ND filter, verify that it is securely retained before flight.
Final Buying Recommendation
The Axisflying DJI O4 Lite Air Unit Kit is worth buying when your priority is protecting the exposed transmission board, fitting the small O4 camera into a 14mm or 20mm frame, or gaining additional thermal headroom.
The 20mm camera housing is the most practical choice for converting an existing O3-style cinewhoop. The 14mm aluminum housing is better for compact frames. The full CNC cooling kit makes the most sense on larger aircraft where durability and cooling margin outweigh an approximately 8.7g increase.
Do not purchase the cooling kit expecting longer transmission range or permanently overheat-proof operation. Its real benefits are mechanical protection, cleaner mounting and slower temperature rise.
