Buying Guide: MEPS SZ2806.5 Review and T-Hobby F90 2806.5 Comparison

Is the MEPS SZ2806.5 Worth Buying?

The MEPS SZ2806.5 is designed for pilots who need more torque than a typical 2207 or 2306 motor can provide when controlling larger propellers. Its 2806.5 stator, approximately 47–48g weight with wires and Uni-Bell construction make it a practical option for 6–8-inch long-range, cinematic and larger freestyle FPV builds.

Choose 1300KV for an efficient and predictable 7-inch 6S long-range or cinematic build. Choose 1800KV when faster throttle response is required on a 4S 7-inch build or a higher-powered 5–6-inch 6S setup.

For most pilots building a conventional 7-inch 6S drone, the 1300KV version is the safer starting point. The 1800KV version requires more careful matching of battery voltage, propeller load, ESC capacity and motor-output limits.

MEPSKING Expert Assessment: SZ2806.5

After reviewing the supplied unboxing, installation and build footage, the MEPSKING team considers the SZ2806.5 1300KV a strong match for a conventional 7-inch long-range build. In one independent unboxing, the motor weighed approximately 47g with wires, appeared cleanly assembled and was installed on an RCON 7 Pro frame.

Another documented build used SZ2806.5 1800KV motors with a 60A ESC, two capacitors, a DJI digital video system and a Crossfire receiver. The completed build powered up and hovered with temporary 5-inch propellers, demonstrating successful motor and electronics integration. However, the supplied footage did not contain a full flight test with its intended 7-inch propellers.

MEPSKING’s verdict: choose 1300KV for efficiency, range and predictable motor temperatures. Choose 1800KV when stronger response is the priority and the propeller, voltage and ESC have been intentionally selected for the higher motor speed.

Which SZ2806.5 KV Should You Choose?

ScenarioChoose 1300KVChoose 1800KV
Primary UseLong range, endurance and smooth cinematic cruisingFaster freestyle and more aggressive cinematic flying
Recommended Starting Setup7-inch propeller with 6S7-inch propeller with 4S or 5–6-inch propeller with 6S
Flight CharacterSmooth throttle response with lower current demandStronger punch and faster propeller acceleration
8-Inch UseUse a low-pitch propeller and conservative 4S setup after testingNot the recommended starting option
7-Inch 6S UseRecommended defaultRequires careful prop testing and possibly a motor-output limit
Best BuyerPilots prioritizing efficiency, range and predictable temperaturesExperienced builders prioritizing responsiveness and power

For most 7-inch 6S long-range builds, select the 1300KV version. Choose 1800KV only when the propeller, battery and ESC are intentionally configured for the higher motor speed.

MEPS SZ2806.5 vs T-Hobby F90 2806.5

Both motors use a 2806.5 stator and weigh approximately 46–48g with wires. The main differences are the available KV options, rotor construction and the type of independent testing available to buyers.

In an independent five-motor bench comparison using a 7×3.5×3 propeller, the T-Hobby F90 1300KV produced strong peak torque and similar thrust to other popular 2806.5 motors. Its low weight gave it the best weight-normalized overall score in that test. However, it was not the most efficient motor in every operating range.

Mounting Pattern19×19mm M319×19mm M3
Test EvidenceDocumented 7-inch installations and positive build-quality feedbackStrong torque and leading performance per gram in a five-motor bench test
Choose It WhenYou want 1300KV efficiency or a responsive 1800KV option with Uni-Bell constructionYou prioritize measured torque-to-weight performance and 1300KV or 1500KV

Choose the MEPS SZ2806.5 for its 1300KV/1800KV selection, Uni-Bell construction and documented compatibility with MEPS-based 7-inch builds. Choose the T-Hobby F90 2806.5 when its 1300KV or 1500KV version better matches the build and independently measured torque-to-weight performance is the priority.

Frame and Application Compatibility

The SZ2806.5 uses a 19×19mm M3 mounting pattern. Confirm that the frame arms support this pattern before ordering, as some larger FPV frames accept only 16×16mm motor mounting.

The 1300KV version is best suited to 7-inch 6S long-range and cinematic builds. It can also be considered for a conservative 8-inch 4S setup with a low-pitch propeller. The 1800KV version is better suited to 4S 7-inch builds or responsive 5–6-inch 6S configurations.

The “X8” in a cinelifter description refers to an eight-motor layout, not an 8-inch propeller. Always select the motor according to the actual propeller size, battery voltage, all-up weight and number of motors.

Installation and First-Flight Tips

1. Verify the 19×19mm mounting pattern and use the correct M3 screw length. Screws that extend too far can contact and damage the motor windings.

2. Use a quality 50–60A ESC for demanding 7-inch configurations. The documented 1800KV build used a 60A ESC and two capacitors to help manage electrical noise and voltage spikes. Consider the MEPS NEONCORE F405 60A FPV Stack for a compatible high-current build.

3. Remove the propellers and verify motor direction before the first power test. After installing a conservative propeller, perform a short hover and check the temperature of all four motors.

4. If the motors become excessively hot after a short flight, reduce propeller load, check the tune and confirm that the battery and KV combination is appropriate.
